Happy New Year!

So last year was a big year:

- Liz got her first out of college job at a school
- Mark moved to Lansing
- Mark graduated
- We got married!
- We traveled to Washington DC for the first time.
- We moved across the country.
- We got a dog.

We celebrated tonight with new friends at Cardigan.

We are looking forward to everything 2012 has in store for us!

Oh Baby!

It's a beautiful sunny day here in NH!  It was snowing this morning, but it was nice to actually see the snow fall instead of waking up to a few inches on the ground.

I have been crocheting like mad lately!  I love the feeling of finishing a project.  I can't wait until Christmas to give these awesome gifts out.

In other more exciting news...my BFF is having a baby TODAY!  I can't believe it!  So good luck to her (and her hubby too!).  I can't wait to meet their little man.

Christmas Time!

Wow, can you believe it's already December 5th!  Time sure is flying! We have been listening to lots of Bare Naked Ladies Christmas music lately.

We are officially decorated for Christmas.  Not hard when you have a total of 5 decorations though (tree not included).  Since we won't be here for Christmas, we decided to go with no tree this year, oh well there's always next year.

I have been crocheting a ton lately!  My first homemade Christmas gifts are finished, only a few more to go.  Plus Mark will finally be getting the scarf he has been asking for for years now :)  I'll post pictures once the gifts are given to their recipients.

Yesterday one of my friends came over for a crochet/movie party.  We watched The Holiday.  I forgot how cute that movie is.  Yesterday was definitely a good day :)

Happy Thanksgiving!

We are spending time in Michigan until Saturday night.  I am definitely enjoying being so close to the grocery store and to the mall!

Today we are spending time with both families eating and hanging out.  I am beyond stoked to get some green bean casserole!

I'm still deciding if I want to go out and shop tonight/tomorrow morning, but there isn't really anything I need...

Traveling!

We are officially on Thanksgiving break!  Yeah for a whole week away from school :)

Currently we are stopped in Erie, PA for the night to get some sleep before driving back to MI tomorrow!  We are so excited to see our family and friends again!

Crafts

Where have the past few weeks gone?  I can't believe it's already the middle of November!  These past few weeks have been really busy, but seem to finally be calming down.

I know I mentioned this last time, but I am totally obsessed with Pinterest.  I keep finding awesome recipes to try (that are super easy too!).  And lots and lots and lots and lots of craft ideas.

My super amazing best friend is having a baby next month!  So I decided I would attempt to make something for her new little guy.  I did three "practice" coasters, and then I decided to make a baby blanket.  Once the blanket was done I was feeling adventurous, so I made two pairs of mittens and a hat too.  I think they turned out awesome.  Here are some pictures:

I used single crochet for everything.  I used this tutorial for the mittens, though when I made the first pair they seemed a little small (but I didn't have any baby hands to test them on), so I made a second pair with an extra 5 stitches around.  I used this tutorial for the hat, but obviously mine was solid colored.  To make the "magic circle" to start the hat I used this website.

Closer view of the blanket.

Top view of the hat.

My "baby" to test the sizes on.

Charlie was enjoying the sun that day!

Woah!

Time sure has been flying lately!  I can't believe it's already November 6!

Lately I have been wasting spending lots of time on Pinterest.  Which is both good and bad.  On the plus side, I've found lots of cute crafts and recipe ideas (which I have actually been making!).  On the minus side, I've been spending LOTS of time searching and searching and searching and finding so many cute things I will never be able to make them all!  Oh well, it's still fun.

Last week was filled with doctor appointments.  Mostly for normal things.  It just stinks that it takes over a half hour to get to the doctor, so a huge chunk of your morning is gone by the time you are back home.

I have discovered a new grocery store (Hannaford) which is amazing!  I love it so much more than the other store I was going to.  They even have Chobani for one dollar regular price!  I'm in love :)

I'm making Mark a scarf.  Let's see how long this takes me.  I've tried knitting, but so far have been very unsuccessful.  I get how to do it, but the last stitch is always super loose because I don't think I hold the needles close enough together.

Right now I'm watching the Patriots - Giants game.  I'm very entertained by how poorly Tom Brady is performing.  I find it funny, but I should probably not mention it to any of the boys because most of them are huge Patriots fans.

This post is super super random.  Oh well.

Boston and snow!

Last weekend was Parent's Weekend here at school, so the boys left on Saturday night and returned on Wednesday.  It was a nice little break for us too :)

Jackie and Justin came up to visit for the long weekend (and Mark's birthday).  We spent a few days exploring Boston!  I absolutely love Boston.  I would totally live there.  I've been twice now, once for a science conference, and last weekend for fun.

Some highlights:
 Giant sea turtles.

 Penguins!

Tour of Fenway, complete with a press box visit and an amazing view of Boston.

Cannoli's from Mike's Pastry.  Very yummy.

It was a very fun trip and I would love to go back again!

Today it decided to snow!  I cannot believe it.  It has been snowing for about 2 and a half hours now.  Yuck.  The kids are excited though and are already attempting to go sledding and have snowball fights.  Though a lot of them are outside in shorts and t-shirts...brr.

There is something wrong with pumpkins and snow.  Especially snow on October 27th.

Officially a New Hampster!

Pictures are working today!  Check the previous posts for pictures of my latest baking adventures.

Mark is officially a New Hamspter as of today!  He went to get his new license.  We had to drive about an hour to get to Claremont and then wound up in the wrong building because Google leaves you in the middle of an intersection, how kind.  But in the end it all worked out, and we had pizza for lunch!  Which is always a bonus.

I made some black bean hummus yesterday, courtesy of Andi.  Easiest recipe ever!  I absolutely love my food processor.  It is amazing and makes things super easy.

Black Bean Hummus
Ingredients (these are all approximations, adjust to taste):
  • 1 can of black beans
  • 1 red pepper (seeded)
  • 1, 2, or 3 cloves of garlic (whatever your preference)
  • 1 TB olive oil
  • 1 TB tahini (sesame oil)
  • 1/2 a lime of juice
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
How to:
  • Mix all in food processor!  No chopping necessary!
Yesterday was rainy, again, so this is how Charlie and I spent a majority of the afternoon.

Hello.

So I've decided to give this blogging thing a try.  We'll see how long I stick with it :)

We are mid-way through our 9th week in New Hampshire.  Wow!  In some ways it feels like it's been longer than that, in some ways it feels shorter.  I am absolutely loving all the fall colors out here!  Maybe it's the colors combined with the amazing mountain view from our apartment windows, but this year fall seems pretty awesome.  It could also be the fact that I also have time to actually enjoy it this year, instead of being busy all the time, which is a nice change.

Lately I've been in the mood to bake, which is both good and bad.  I am seriously working with the smallest kitchen in the world (complete with a mini-stove!), but at least the stove works.  I have absolutely fallen in love with this blog.  Her recipes are amazing, and pretty simple.

This week I made Pumpkin Oatmeal Cookies

and Cookie Dough Truffles,

along with some Oreo truffles too.  One perk to having 17 boys living down the hall is that I have many eager taste-testers.  We decided that the cookies would benefit from having some chocolate chips added to the mix!

Next on the list:  black bean hummus, courtesy of my wonderful cousin.  Hopefully mine turns out as good as hers!

In other news...our car is officially registered in the state of NH.  It passed its inspection (who knew cars needed to be inspected in order for you to drive them!) with flying colors.
